ANTM Cycle 19 Shake-Up: New Judge, New Night, New Time

After Tyra Banks fired three of her longtime judges from America's Next Top Model (Nigel Barker, J. Alexander, Jay Manuel) last month, she announced that the next cycle of ANTM needed a new “boost.” And now, The CW has released details on what exactly those changes will be.

In a press release, The CW announces that ANTM Cycle 19 (the college edition) will return in the fall on a new night at a new time: Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. But that’s the least of the changes. Tyra has already found a replacement judge, and those rumors about a more technologically hip show turned out to be real.

Tyra has enlisted “international male model” Rob Evans to be the “third permanent judge” alongside herself and Kelly Cutrone. And Jay Manuel is being replaced by Johnny Wujek, “stylist to the stars, including singer Katy Perry,” as “the new creative consultant, who will guide the models through their photo shoots.”

According to the release, ANTM Cycle 19 “will offer an interactive experience where, for the first time in ANTM history, the public will be able to have a say in who stays and who goes in the competition.” How, exactly?

Starting a week from today, on Thursday, May 24, “fans will have two opportunities each week to vote online at www.cwtv.com and choose their favorite contestants based on photo shoots taken during production.” Tyra and the judges will then use those scores to help determine who is eliminated going into the next cycle. The release continues, “Viewers will also have the opportunity to have their comments and video messages featured in the show when the cycle airs in the fall.”

Wow! Aside from our sadness for Nigel and the Jays, we’re pretty impressed with Tyra’s rapid redesign. And you know we’ll be voting on the 24th! What do you think of new judges Rob and Johnny? Are they exciting enough to replace our favorites?
